noam, strong refers to aramaic SXT=squeeze or mandaic SHT=spread out.
continuing a previous thread, though [the difference between S and $], SXT may
be directly related to $XT=butcher: the original essence of $-XT may
have been the squirting of blood, not necessarily the killing. so,
the root may have been derived from XT=poke (or MXC=crush?)

aramaic SXT indicates mishnaic hebrew. from the internet i found that
squeezing grapes to make a juice is discussed in MASEKhET ShABAT, but i failed
to find the exact location.

------------------------------
zalman, i liked your explanation for rashi's "logic" in equating wife with
bread.

--------------------------------
הֵן אֲדֹנִי לֹא-יָדַע אִתִּי מַה-בַּבָּיִת

my lord confided to me whatever is in the house (and so i need not report
to him on these matters). the message is: I AM ABSOLUTELY LOYAL TO HIM.

the logical contextual translation of

לא ידע אתו (did not get informed with him)

would be: did not (require to) check him (periodically).
thus: did not (require to) supervise, control, or orient.
also: gave him a free hand.

>> לא ידע אתו מאומה כי אם הלחם אשר
הוא או
confided to him all but the food which he was eating.
[but clearly not confiding his meals with the second of command...]

--------------------

as to gen 43:32, in some places LXM must be translated as MEAT, as also
confirmed in arabic. so, maybe the egyptians considered eating meat an
abomination. (??)

but then again, maybe the abomination was eating with strangers, based on
different religeous practices.
