It is the variant of

סלם, צלם, שלם, תלם

SLM, CLM, $LM, TLM, 'tall and massive'.

From this root are the words SULAM, 'ladder?', CELEM, 'form, body', $ALOM, 'wholesomeness, soundness', and TELEM, 'ridge, farrow'. See Ps. 65:11(10).

All we may say about SULAM is that it is a lofty and massive structure or contraption (ladder, staircase, ramp, basket elevator ––– the bible unfortunately lacks illustrations) by which to convey vertically.
