dear bryant,

george is correct that the vav has many functions (see e.g. several recent
papers by a. cook) and psalms is no exception. the vav has lent itself to many
interpretations, and in particular i mention here d. michel "tempora...1960"
(also discussed in waltke-oconnor) which interprets the yiqtol (whether or not
preceded by vav, contrasted with qatal) as an essentially DEPENDENT action,
i.e. a "mental consequence" of a previous text unit. this interpretation is
much wider than mere contrast. michel's work includes numerous examples from
psalms where the connotation is not contrastive.

>>> Okayyyyyy, what are the other reasons for using this disjunctive if not
for only contrast;with examples please?
