david,

now that you mention it, sure i overlooked the word SHA'AL [i didnt
recognize your item because you rather referred to it as SH'ULAH,
which i think does not exist]. in modern but outdated hebrew it also
signifies a step, synonymous to TZA'AD and close to MISH'OL=path;
and we still use SHA'AL ADAMA to mean a small piece (handful!) of land.

so, lehishta'el (to cough) really means to cover one's mouth with
one's palm. that's cool!

david: > Based on a number of Targumim, Jastro translates it as the "hollow of
the hand / foot, handfuls." In the Tanakh it is generally translated as
"handfuls" (KgI20:10)(Is40:12)(Ezek13:19).

nir: > your "sh/ulah" for BH palm/ arch of foot is new to me.
(somewhat similar to IE sole)? i hope your finding is not based "sole"-ly on
dr. sch'oll's catalogue...where is this BH word found?
