hi,

i am an israeli mathematician working in brazil. as a new member of this list
i have followed with interest your most recent discussions. i am mostly
interested in ancient linguistics, confessedly as an amateur (or "internet
scholar").

* re: ken: YULAD *

Pere correctly pointed out that the tense is PUAL. however, we are dealing
with irregular verbs of different kinds.

as an irregular verb starting with YOD, YLD has to be declined with other
words like YRSH, YSHB, YD), or YBSH. the PUAL form for these verbs is not at
all irregular and follows the general pattern, granted that YOD is the first
root letter:

* the PUAL-past form is YuLaD, YuSHaV, YuBaSH, YuDa).

* the future form is ye-YuLaD, ye-YuSHaV, ye-YuBaSH, ye-YuDa).

(i believe YRSH has no PUAL form).

* re: pere: YULAD *

The examples given by pere are of a different irregular nature: NTN and KYM
and follow different declensions. NTN loses one or two NUNs in some
declensions (ten, latet, natati, yutan).

in fact, HUKAM/YUKAM is in the HIFIL form. KYM (exists) declension is mixed up
with the very ancient 2-letter root KM (stands) in a way i find more confusing
the more i think of it. maybe someone in the group could elucidate on this.
