You might be referring to the theory of Robert H. Pfeiffer of Harvard who proposed a Southern (or Seir) Source. This S Source would hypothetically come from Edom.

This is one of the "fringe hypotheses" (as in not having any significant following, not to imply, necessarily, that they are all wacko hypotheses) on the outskirts of the JEPD hypothesis. A similar hypothesis proposed by Julius Morgenstern is that there is a Kenite (K) source. Martin Noth proposed that there was a G Source (grundlage, German for "foundation") from which both J and E Sources were derived; basicly there was one original source, then the North (Isra'el) and South (Judah) each had their divergent derived versions which would later come back together as the redacted JE Source.

If you look at any document long enough, you could, in theory, split it down to the point where you think each word comes from each a different source. This is perhaps one of a many reasons the fringe hypotheses haven't gained much traction.
