Yes, Fred, words at the end of clauses and at the break between the first
part and second part of verses often change in the vocalization. Beginning
grammars all cover this. For example, Genesius covers this under section 29.
Look in your grammar under "pause" or "pausal forms".

Hello all;
The masoretic text a wonderful testament to book writing ability in a world
without printer or processor.
The pronunciation codes sometimes seem a bit lacking in consistency,
however.
ועתה הרגו כל זכר בטף וכל אשה ידעת איש למשכב זכר הרגו
numbers 31:17
הרגו , imperative tense, masculine, plural .... pointed for
customary pronunciation "hir-gu" at the beginning of the verse; and yet
the identical word coded for pronunciation "ha-ro-gu" at sentence end.
Does word pronunciation change at the end of a clause versus beginning of a
clause?
