Garth Grenache quoted Yitzhak Sapir as saying:

"There is nothing scholarly or critical about ignoring the vowels. Nor is
it an issue that the Masoretes couldn't all unanimously agree what that
tradition was. The issue is complex. There are several traditions, all
relevant and authentic."

My question concerns only the Masoretic tradition concerning the vowels
of "YHWH".

However my question also concerns whether b-hebrew considers the Ben
Chayyim Hebrew text of 1525 A.D. to be a legitimate Hebrew Masoretic
Text, which preserves an authenic [but late] tradition
for pointing the Tetragrammaton.

Obviously the Tetragrammaton in the Ben Chayyim Hebrew Text was pointed
differently than was the Tetragrammaton pointed in the Leningrad Codex.

Yet the two methods used in the Ben Chayyim Hebrew text, are found among
the 6 methods used in the Leningrad Codex.

Gerard Gertoux seems to indicate that the change found in the Ben Chayyim
Hebrew text,
was a change that gradually occurred over a 200-300 year period between
1008-1010 A.D.,
thus indicating that Ben Chayyim did not originate the method he used to
point the Tetragrammaton.

Am I correct in my last conclusion.

Dear Jim

I hate to be the one to break it to you but your 'entire theory of the Bible
is destroyed'. My sincerest of condolences. May your theory rest in peace.

If I may offer a few kind words in memory of your theory. Although not such
a good theory she had the very best intentions and, in some way, made an
impact on our lives here at b-hebrew over the last 3 years. And I think I
speak for everybody's inbox here, she will be sorely missed. In fact, if her
absence was to be measured in megabytes per month she will be more sorely
missed than all other forms of spam that clutter members' inboxes. Yes,
although without any great foundation her monthly worth in terms of
megabytes far exceeded that of Viagra and friends.

She was enthusiastic and energetic and, yes, at times even amusing. She will
be sorely missed my friend. Once more I offer my sincerest of condolences.
May she rest in peace along with her enemies the Amorites who dared occupy
Oases South of the Dead Sea and the Horites who dared live in the Mountains
of Seir South of the Dead Sea and the Hurrians who, poor fellows, have
absolutely nothing to do with any of this.

James Christian
