Hi Spyros,

You wrote:

Dear members of the group,

Since I am a translator of the Bible,
I wish to know your opinion:

Is it correct to translate the
"ineffable" strict name of God "YAHWEH" as "The Existing One"?

If you agree, please show me scholar references and bibliography,
mostly findable in the Internet.

Thank you.

At the link below, if you can get it to work, you will find two bits of
information about Gesenius.
Check first and last sentence found at link below:

If the link above doesn't work when you click on it,
Try cutting and pasting it into your browser.

1. Gesenius is the Hebrew scholar who is credited with giving us the
proposed Hebrew punctuation of YHWH: [yod-patah-heh-shewa-waw-segol-heh]

2. Gesenius suggested that his proposed Hebrew punctuation of YHWH might
be the Hiph. Fut. of the substantive verb.

If you have access to the 1905 Edition of the Brown-Driver-Briggs
Lexicon,
check out page 218, and you will find several definitions of "Yahweh" ,
by Hebrew Scholars who treated "Yahweh" as a Hiph. form of the verb HWH:

"the one bringing into being, lifegiver"
"giver of existence , creator"
"He who brings to pass"
"Performer of His promises"

The B-D-B Lexicon also lists definitions of "Yahweh" by Hebrew scholars
who considered "Yahweh" should be treated as a Qal form of HWH:

"the one who is: i.e. the absolute and unchangeable one"
"the existing, ever-living, as self-consistant and unchangeable"
"the one ever coming into manisfestation as the God of Redemption.
