I'm not aware of any root that would give "hovah" a meaning of
"destruction." "Xurvah", perhaps, but the spelling is xet-vav-resh-bet-heh
- entirely different from the Tetragrammaton,

There is something that keeps popping up now and then. That is, that the
Massoretes changed the vowels of the tetragrammaton so that to pronounce the
name would be to curse YHWH. Something about hovah meaning destruction. I
seriously doubt this because then they would be guilty of causing others to
sin greatly in ignorance. They would be purposely digging a pit for the
unsuspecting to fall into.
Has anyone else heard such a thing and is there truth to this? This sounds
like a rumor that needs to be debunked. Or if there is truth to it it would
not be evil motives of the Massoretes. I have not heard anything of the kind
on this list so far.
