From a linguistics point of view isn't Ugarit closer to Hebrew than Akkadian? Should we suspect that if Avram actually came from Northern Messopotamia that he was more influenced by Ugarit than Akkadian? I believe (oops not suppose to believe on this list:) that the Akkadian Empire also ruled Northern Messopotamia before 2000 BCE so certainly there would have been an influnence of Akkadian as well. When studing the Ras Shamra text are we possibly looking at ancient Hebrew or a dialect of ancient Hebrew? Does anyone know of someone who did their dissertation on or a nearly related subject to the relationship of Hebrew and Ugarit.
Thanks,
Mark Spitsbergen
