$IL:X cam also mean weapon. So I get...

None of us removed our garments, each man, his weapon, the water.

So I guess you'd have to smooth it out a bit.

None of us removed our garments, but each man had his weapon even going to
the water. (maybe for drinking or using the bathroom.)
