Hi Bill,

The word &)R (seor) appears altogether 5 times, always in juxtaposition with
XMC (hamets): in Ex. 12:15, 19, 13:7 and Deut. 16:4 the context is the
Passover laws, while in Lev. 2:11 the context is the laws of sacrifices.
Here, in particular, it says "any offering... do nat make (of) hametz,
because all seor and all devash, you shall not burn as an offering for the
Lord". It would seem, that "all seor and all devash" are subtypes of
"hametz". "Hametz" is generally understood as "leavened" or "fermented".
Assuming (as most commentaries do) that "devash" is "fruit honey" (dates,
grapes, figs etc.), I would understand "do not sacrifice anything that is
fermented, neither yeast (seor-probably made from grain) or fruit honey".
