Shalom All,

The phrase "Me(onah Elohey Qedem" (Deut. 33:27) is translated "The eternal
God is thy refuge" in the AV, and "He subdues the ancient gods" by NRSV, with
a note about "mythic imagery".
What is Me(onah? Ma(on is usually a "residence", so wouldn't it be "The
residence of the ancient/everlasting G/god"? I can understand how AV got from
"residence" to "refuge". Where did "subdue" come from?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Yigal
