Dear Joe,
If "Jephthah the Gileadite" is writing to the "king of the Beni-Ammon", what
do you make of verse 24?
"Will you not possess what CHEMOSH, YOUR GOD, causes you to possess?
Likewise all that YAHWEH, OUR GOD, caused to be dispossessed before us, it
we will possess".
Since when did Chemosh become the god of the kings of the Ammonites?
HH: Ammon and Moab were right next to each other. The peoples were related by descent. The Moabites worshiped Chemosh. What is so strange about thinking that at some time in their existence, the Ammonites were disposed to worship the god Chemosh?
Yours,
Harold Holmyard
