- Subject: [b-hebrew] Why Morphology?
- Date: Wed, 21 Apr 2004 12:26:42 -0700
Why is it that so many discussions of Biblical Hebrew tend to be focused on
formal issues like morphology? In greek circles morphology is something you
fuss over in your first course or two ... but in Hebrew circles the "big
guns" seem to be constantly arguing with each other about the fine points of
the minute formal aspects of the language.
Of course there are lots of discussions of the semantics of wayyiqatal and
so forth but percentage wise Hebrew discussions seem to be weighted toward
morphology, phonetics, orthography and other issues at that ground level of
the communication model.
This has always puzzled me.
