In Rahlfs' edition of the LXX, the OG says KETEI (1:17
= 2:1) and KETOUS (2:2) (i.e. whale or large sea
creature), with both nouns being *neuter*. Hmmmm,
looks like the Hebrew ur-text(s) recorded no gender
differences (i.e. DAG, DAG, or DAGAH, DAGAH), or that
there has been some harmonizing going on. Or that the
"discrepancy" didn't bother those who translated
Yonah's story into Greek.
