Please refer to http://www.ibiblio.org/bhebrew for the
transcription/transliteration scheme generally used on
this mailing list. Many of the list subscribers
receive non-Rich ASCII e-mails, which do not support
Hebrew characters in any manner (since I'm composing
in an ASCII-only program, your characters should show
up for you as they do for me). If you want your Hebrew
references to be understood, try to transfer them into
the transliteration scheme. It keeps us all on the
same page. ;-) (no offense)
My reply:
Because of its wide usefulness, I prefer to use Hebrew
unicode and the (free!) Hebrew fontboard. It works
well for me and for what I do. You can use vowel
points, daghesh, etc. if you compose with a specific
charset tag in HTML. For an example of Unicode's
usefulness, see the Tanakh provided by Mechon Mamre:

A curious observation is Ms Glick's complaint about Saddam Hussein's
ungentlemanly behaviour, in his operating around archaeological sites. We
could maybe drop leaflets consoling Iraqis with the thought that, while the
children and young soldiers may be blown to pieces, old dead stones in which
we happen to be interested will be lovingly preserved. It might also be
necessary to tell Iraqi soldiers to ensure that, when they die, they don't
bleed on anything historically important.
Peace (truly)
Bruce.

Greetings!
I'm trying to EMail with a friend in Israel whose computer evidently came
with Arial & Times New Romans Hebrew fonts. My computer in the US has a
number of Arial & Times New Romans fonts, but none of them are Hebrew. Any
idea how I can get the fonts my friend has, so we can EMail Hebrew text to
one another? My computer came from Gateway, who says they don't have such
fonts to send me... I also checked the MicroSoft site, but got
nowhere. There's a Penn State web page at
http://tlt.its.psu.edu/suggestions/international/bylanguage/hebrew.html
that says, for Windows NT/2000/XP (which I have): "Hebrew Fonts - Modern
versions of Times New Roman, Arial, Tahoma, Courier New, and Arial Unicode
include Hebrew characters. Lucida Sans Unicode, David, and Miriam will also
work.
Most of these fonts are available through Windows."
But how do I get them?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!
Susan Jeffers
