You're right that the language was Hebrew, but the script (call it
"font" if you like) was that used by the ancient Phoenicians. The script
is also called paleo-Hebrew, and was used in the Moabite Mesha Stele,
which is NOT written in Hebrew, but in a closely related dialect. The
script does not look like Modern Hebrew script in either its printed or
cursive forms. Ask Jim West for the photo and you'll see.

Hebrew hasn't ever had its own script, really. First it borrowed the
Phoenician script, and then the Aramaic script.
