I think there has been a miscommunication. The habituals that I referred
to, did in fact happen, more than once.

Exactly. On many occasions, when he as a shepherd had animal problems,
he killed the attacking animal. And to describe those recurring situations
he
used veqatal structure, as is normal in BH. It is the examplary instance of
vayyiqtol that is relatively rare.
