I don't know exactly, but ancient Greek translators had a way with
Hebrew. Probably
for the same reason ben Maimon became Maimonides, it sounded better in
Greek. The
Septuagint usually has "Salomon," with both "O's" being Omegas, not
omicrons; but
sometimes it has "Solomon."
