There is a good discussion on the subject in:

Dominique Barthélemy (dir.): Critique textuelle de l'ancien testament. Vol.
1: Josué, Juges, Ruth, Samuel..., Göttingen, 1982, p. 169-172

They give 2 arguments in favor of Qumran as older text and 5 arguments in
favor of the Masoretic text. The conclusion is: "Avec les exégètes
allemands les plus récents (Rehm, Hertzberg, RL. Stoebe, Eü), le comité a
doncs estimé qu'il fallait revenir ici à la leçon du M" (= Masoretic text).
