Tuesday's New York Times
contained an article by John Noble Wilford that included the assertion that
Josiah was the last king of Judah of the Davidic line. This surprised me,
because I recalled that on Josiah's death in battle he was succeeded by his son
Yehoahaz, who was dethroned by Necho II and replaced by another of Josiah's
sons, Yehoiakim, who was succeeded by his son Yehoiachin, who was exiled by
Nebuchadnezzar and replaced by Mattaniah, whose throne name was Tzidkiah
(Zedekiah).
Has anyone else heard this
assertion, and if so can they tell me on what it is based?
