Miryam or Maryam with the meaning "the revolt of the sea god" or "the
sea god revolts" is very reminiscent of both the Ugaritic Baal cycle and
of various references in Psalms, Job and Latter Prophets to a revolt of
the sea against YHWH. (On the latter subject Cassuto wrote an essay many
years ago).
