I don't think the ysovveni is consecutive to 'apapuni. cf.
2 Sam 22:5 where we have a qatal-yiqtol series, and I think
the yiqtol *is* the "consecutive without the prefixed
conjunction": ki 'apapuni mishberey mavet naxaley beliya`al
yeba`atuni.

I think Jon 6b is basically synonymous with 6a although it
does "outdo" 6a in vividness. I refer to such a collocation
of yiqtol and qatal forms in synonymous cola as "verbal
merismus." I think it is an attempt to express the same
event or idea from both viewpoints, the attributive (qatal)
and the emerging (yiqtol). My primo example is Psa 93:3
"The flows are lifters up (qatal), O YHVH, the flows are
lifters up (qatal) of their voice. The flows lift up
(yiqtol) their crushing (waves)." Notice once again the
progression, here from generic to vivid, concrete albeit
within the same basic thought.

Shalom,
Bryan
