Dear List,
It may not be common knowledge that mainstream Old Testament scholarship is dominated by German pedigree. The three main scholars in chronological order are Julius Wellhausen (Source Criticism), Herman Gunkel (Form Criticism) and Martin Noth (Tradition criticism). My particular contribution lies in developing form criticism in the direction of theoretical linguistics (Genre) and social epistemology (Matrix). Those who would like to investigate this intellectual tradition should read, ideally in order, E.D. Hirsch, Validity in Interpretation H. Gunkel, The Legends of Genesis M. Noth, The History of Pentateuchal Traditions K. Mannheim, Ideology and Utopia P, Berger and T. Luckmann, The Social Construction of Reality T. Kuhn, The Structure of Scientific Revolutions J. Wellhausen, Prolegomena to the History of Israel P. Sorokin, Cultural and Social Dynamics (4 Vols) For more, one should spend time in the philosophical traditons of E. Husserl and A. Schutz and with works of Albrecht. Alt. L.M. Barre L. M. Barre, Ph.D. barre AT c-zone.net www.angelfire.com/ca2/AncientIsrael |
