Dear forum members,
I have decided that I would not appear intolerably self-serving to recommend two of my own works as they relate to certain topics of current academic exchange. The first is entitled, The Rhetoric of Political Persuasion: The Narrative Artistry and Political Intentions of 2 King 9-11. This book was intended to illustrate the application of theoretical linguistics and social epistemology to the interpretation of a biblical narrative. As a complement to this highly analytic study, one may also wish to read a pre-released, semi-formal and highly synthetic treatment of early Palestinian history and tradition entitled, Deconstructing Early Israel: A New Hermeneutic. I would recommend that one secure Rhetoric directly from the Catholic Biblical Association of America, yet it is also available through both off and on-line book distributors at a cost of about five dollars. To view Deconstructing, one will find it among the links at my home page given below. Both books reflect an approach that is best represented by the foundational studies of J. Wellhausen, H. Gunkel, Martin Noth, K. Mannheim, S. Pitirim and Eric Hirsch Jr. Thank you. Best regards, L. M. Barre, Ph.D. barre AT c-zone.net www.angelfire.com/ca2/AncientIsrael |
