Dear List Members,
For the sake of methological clarity within the context of the historical
study of ancient Israel, I suggest that we make an adjustment in our
terminology. Rather than posing a contrast between "biblical" and
"extra-biblical" evidence, we would be helped by the more descriptive terms
"intra-biblical" verses "extra-biblical." This adjustment would, I believe,
help free us from connotations that can obscure matters related to
objectivity and historical method.
Thank you.
With regards,
L. M. Barre, Ph.D.
