Gday B-Haverim,

There are 2 sources of long postings. Firstly, some people reply without
removing the content of the post they are replying to. This can be solved if
people edit their replies more carefully. For instance, how many of these do
we each read per post?

You are currently subscribed to b-hebrew as: .....

To subscribe, send an email to join-b-hebrew AT franklin.oit.unc.edu.

I usually count 3 or 4 of these.

Secondly, and these are much longer, some people send their messages in HTML
format or special email format. You can tell this happens when you get lines
like this in a message:

<HTML><BODY BGCOLOR=#FFFFFF>Dear&nbsp;Fellow&nbsp;History&nbsp;Buffs,
<BR>Although&nbsp;I&nbsp;am&nbsp;not&nbsp;really&nbsp;much&nbsp;of&nbsp;a&nb
sp;historian,&nbsp;I&nbsp;am&nbsp;trying&nbsp;to&nbsp;develop&nbsp;a&nbsp;wo
rking&nbsp;model&nbsp;for&nbsp;pre-

Looks delightful doesn't it? This is a message sent in HTML format. This can
be solved by people setting their email program to send messages to B-Hebrew
in plain-text. For instance Outlook 98 lets you stipulate whether an address
must receive plain-text only email messages. To do this go to the address
book, find the B-Hebrew address and click the box that says, Send email
using plain text only. Then the problem will be gone.

With regards,
Matthew Anstey
