Thanks for your comments, Bill. I agree that Joshua does support a great
start to conquest which fizzled. However, there are other indicators
which might suggest this is a compressed and repackaged history with an
Ideology stamp on the front. One of my main concerns is the conquest of
Hazor and king Jabin. This appears to be retold in Judges 4-5 where
there is no mention of Joshua or any southern tribes. It makes me
suspect that Joshua's conquests encompass a wide range of conflicts
which may well have happened before or after the time Joshua is meant to
be in (ca. 1200 BCE).
