Dear Bryan,
Greetings from Mississippi. Fortunately, the last batch of tornado(e)s
missed us. Now our temperatures have gone from the 70s to the 50s. We
think it is cold.
I may feel that old right now but I was just beginning my graduate studies
in 1979. Longacre was one of my professors and I had the privilege of
taking a few courses from him. One was a Ph.D. level seminar on Hebrew
discourse which used a pre-publication draft of the "Joseph Story". One
was a conference course which involved getting his "Grammar of
Discourse" ready for publication, e.g., supervising the typing (no
computer typesetting in those days), preparing the index and various
other editorial duties. I was also fortunate to have Robert Bergen and
Ken Pike as teachers. That's my formal discourse training.
Sincerly,
Harry J. Harm :{)

Dear Harry,
Greetings from snowy Syracuse! We've had a break the last week. Warm
weather has put the banks down to waist-high!
I also mentioned Longacre's article. It's hard to come by. It was printed
in the full version of _Journal of the American Academy of Religion,
XLVII/1_ in 1979 under the title "The Discourse of the Flood Narrative."
Did Longacre consult you on the article?
Shalom,
Bryan
