hi Paul,
weqatal is common in either part of an if/then construction otherwise known
as a protasis/apodosis sentence. it's quite common in legal literature.
often the protasis("if"-part) contains an 'im yiqtol which is then
continued by a weqatal if the protasis has more than one condition. the
apodosis is most often given by a weqatal also, making the line betweeen
protasis and apodosis sometimes difficult to locate. the apodosis may also
be a yiqtol. summary:
[ IF ] 'im yiqtol(first condition) weqatal(2nd condition), [THEN]
(weqatal).
or
[ IF ] 'im yiqtol(first condition) weqatal(2nd), [THEN] X-yiqtol.
see my lesson 44 for this kind of construction.
good blessings!
