for those expressing interest, the basic mapping part goes something
like this (assuming that you need to keep dividing till you get two
"words").

(I'm assuming that the term X-bar syntax means something.)

given a syntactic structure, where either A or B is an X'-level phrase:

C
/ \
A B

create two phonological phrases

( A )Dn+1 ( B )Dn , where n = depth or recursion

(Dn makes reference to the disjunctive accent system.)

I affectionately call this an "X-bar snap".

this will keep peeling off XPs or "constituents" until a head X is
isolated with a following phrase (e.g., bara elohim gen 1:1). if such
a phrase (X YP) needs further division, the next step is (X) (YP). the
YP may still need to be further divided, and the process starts again.

you keep "drilling down" on XPs until all phrases are accounted for.
this can give you some pretty big trees.

in terms of "optimality theory", this is the basic input/output
mapping.

this parse will give the optimal syntax-prosody mapping, all things
being equal. the constraints will then rule out certain mappings, etc.
these constraints force systematic deviations from this mapping.

period.

cheers!
