Little House on a Small Planet Shay Salomon
"At a time when the news is filled with stories of three-car garage
McMansions, Shay Salomon offers a terrific corrective. LITTLE HOUSE ON A
SMALL PLANET shows how smaller, cozier homes provide an antidote to
America's epidemic of loneliness, by building community, saving energy and
reducing our impact on the planet. If you've ever thought of scaling down,
you have a good reason to read this book. If you haven't thought about it,
you have an even better one!" - John de Graaf, PBS producer and author,

Long-term volunteer needed for Tropical Mountain Permaculture Project in
The Los Cedros Protected Forest www.reservaloscedros.org was established in
1989 and work for the recognition as an National Protected Area resulted in
the declaration of Bosque Protector in 1994. Over 17 years populations of
birds and mammals have notably increased to the point where the reserve has
been chosen to become a training center for primate conservation in
association with the University of Sussex and a Darwin Initiative project,
Through out the years of conservation efforts Permaculture has
been a integral part of the development of habitat concepts in and around
Los Cedros and a new area has been identified for intensified development
of a sustainable model. Among considerations taken into account for the
establishment of this new Permaculture site are reforestation of
practically all areas adjacent to the current administrative buildings and
the institution of silveculture systems in existing pastures with emphasis
on providing food sources for primates in the wild. This means happily that
today monkeys are getting at the fruit planted by previous Permaculture
activity here at Los Cedros and we have to move this program further away
from the primates

Greening our Economy with the Principles of Permaculture

Permaculture is an ecological design science for creating efficient,
productive, and self-sustaining systems that serve human communities and
evolve into dynamic and regenerative relationships with the surrounding
environment. As such, the promise of Permaculture extends far beyond food
production systems to our entire economy. How we can use the principles of
permaculture to green the global economy will be the theme of the 2007
Permaculture Convergence in São Paulo, Brazil. By linking the Permaculture
concept to the emerging field of green economics we can begin defining what
a sustainable global economy might look like and how it can be practically
adapted to ensure that human welfare and ecological imperatives are rooted
at the center of the model. The theories and language of green economics
provide sustainable policies with a compelling argument couched in the
powerful language of money and economics.

The Conference will host international speakers who will present plenaries,
workshops and case studies that are directed towards responding to the
immediate challenges facing a world that must decide its course. Their work
will highlight public policy requirements and the active participation of
the business community necessary to encourage sustainable economies at the
local, state, and national level. Successful banking strategies, business
and innovations will be the three panels during which the themes of global
environmental markets, micro-financing, green accounting, certification,
complementary currencies and carbon credit exchange will be presented.
