Named Olive varieties are usually propagated by cuttings or marcotting - 
I'm not familiar with root cuttings being taken for olives.

The wild olives April referred to being a weed in South Australia are 
being harvested for oil production. Of course harvesting & processing the 
fruit will reduce the spread of the plant. Weeds of this kind are a form 
of pollution - a resource not productively utilised by the system. Many 
good useful plants can become weed problems and encourage pest problems 
if not harvested.
