Thanks for asking, Koreen, because I like to try and keep up with this stuff, too.

What does "not as toxic" mean exactly? How toxic is it, and what are the ingredients? Not trying to make trouble, just like to have all the info.

Hello,
You could us Roxul board over pressure treated studs (new pressure treated
yellow pine is no longer as toxic as the old copper arsenic treated stuff)
and then stucco with lime stucco ( sand and lime putty - bag lime and water
for a wall that will not absorb moisture, is insulated (Roxul board is an R
4.1 per inch) and be unfriendly to insects, fungus and rodents as well as
being nontoxic. Fiberglass insulation will attract rodents and insect
infestation.
This is the Roxul site www.roxul.com

could you build a cinder block wall for the other two walls and insulate
with a polyfoam (this is the only thing out there that I have found to
withstand the moisture) There are SIP, structural insulated panels that have
a cement outer core, different from the toxic OSB board that is more
popular. SIPs are big and may need to be special ordered - and it depends on
how close you leave to a manufacture.

treated wood on the floor (although bad) and untreated for the studs would
work if the blocks do not.

if you find a solution, let me know - this has been a design project on my
mind for a while now.
take care,
Julia

Had a question that the folks here might be able to help with...

I am building a "root cellar" in the corner of a basement. Two walls
will be the concrete foundation. The other two walls will be 2x
framing with insulation. The question I have is what material to use
to cover the framed walls and ceiling? Sheet rock is not ideal due to
the high humidity. Wood would be better, but also not ideal in the
humidity. Cement board is probably OK, but a bit pricey.

Anyone come up with any good solutions for this?

TIA
