EcoVersity is proud to announce its new

Beekeeping Certificate Program

in Santa Fe NM, 9 weekends

Join Les Crowder at EcoVersity campus for a whole season of classes designed
to train and outs of natural beekeeping as a livelihood as well as a hobby.
Using the hives at EcoVersity as a living laboratory, students have
extensive opportunities to become comfortable with and knowledgeable about
handling bees. From building hives to collecting swarms and making candles,
a whole season of beekeeping maintenance and understanding are incorporated
into this certificate course.

Les Crowder has taught beekeeping since 1988. Known for his calm and
peaceful relationship with bees, Les maintains over 100 top bar hives
without chemicals, contraptions or expense. He and his wife Beth make a
livelihood working with honey, beeswax, propolis, bee pollen and royal
jelly.

Topics include:

* An introduction to beekeeping and bee biology-- Looking at the
natural life cycle of bees, how do they care for themselves?

* Bee products in their raw or natural state and natural top bar
production--What does organic beekeeping mean? Designing hives to help bees
maintain health.

* Building hives, obtaining bees and creating a safe environment for
them.

* Beekeeping as community service-- Collecting unwanted swarms and
hives and beekeeping safety and regulations.

* Raising queens.

* Hive maintenance for growth early in the season, splitting hives
and checking for disease.

* Selectively harvesting and marketing honey, beeswax, pollen,
propolis and royal jelly. Making salves, candles and balms.

* Preparing for winter; end of the season hive maintenance.

* Conclusion-- Becoming a beekeeper and educator in your local
community.

Permaculture Design Certificate Course

Spring: Friday, March 24th - Friday, April 7th

Summer: Friday, June 23rd - Friday, July 7th

Fall: Friday, August 4th - Friday, August 18th

The Permaculture Design Course (PDC), offered by Ecoversity, is based on the
original certification course developed by Bill Mollison and David Holmgren.
This is a 14 day residential program that is designed as a total immersion
course. The benefits of this course are that through its intensity and with
daily interaction between students the net effect is a shift in
consciousness and perception of the processes of the earth and its biota.

EcoVersity's course is taught by Scott Pittman, one of the foremost teachers
of permaculture in the US. He has traveled extensively throughout the world
doing permaculture design and education and is one of the few teachers to
have co-taught with Bill Mollison.
