I had a nearly identical experience, on top of it when I opened the hive they had been robbed to the point that there wasn't a cell of honey inside. There were piles of dead bees just outside the entrance and on the bottom board. The queen and a few thousand bees are still alive, so I moved them to a nuc to try to save the colony. The few experienced people I have shown the pictures to believe it's a result of pesticide and the remaining bees were likely brood or nurse bees at the time of the exposure. The hive 5 feet away is fine, so it must have been during their foraging. -Mike
