Hi Caleb,

The best person for this is one of our state bee inspectors.  Call Don Hopkins (919) 218-3310, Don.Hopkins AT ncagr.gov or Will Hicks (919)691-0022, Will.Hicks AT ncagr.govThey can tell you for sure what it is.  If it is a treatable disease, they can help you decide on a treatment plan.  If it is American foulbrood, they can help you properly dispose of the hive.

Best of luck,

Lanette

Anyone interested in doing a postmortem on a hive? I just inspected what was my strongest hive a month ago and discovered that all the bees are either dead or gone. Only a couple  thousand are left. They have a super of mostly capped honey but a large number of decaying brood, mostly uncapped. No moth activity at all and no sign of any laying worker activity. I'm suspecting foulbrood but have never encountered it before. I'd really like to hear from someone who would recognize it. Will post pics in a little while.
