You could probably overwinter if you requeen and push syrup, but doubt if it would be worth the effort. It could be merged with an existing hive that is weak. using the newspaper trick

Hi,
I have a question. Today I noticed what look like honey bees, many of them, coming and going from a opening in some landscaping timbers in my yard. I've never noticed them before (and would have, I think, as it is a well-traveled area of my yard). Is this related to the coming cold weather (i.e. are they preparing to over-winter underground) ? I know little about bees so please excuse my ignorance. Should they be moved, left in peace, or something else ?
Also, since I live in Durham, is there a more local contact for me ?
Thanks for any information.
