Ernest,
     I have been told that the BEST way to germinate hawthorn seeds is staright out of the fruit (like citrus seeds). Don't let them dry out. You may wash them to remove inhibitors but plant them without drying. Reportedly they germinate FAST.

Watermelon seeds germinate quickly this way also.

Read on the Internet that it takes about 18 months for hawthorn seeds
to germinate.  Saw on EBay seeds for yellow hawthorns from Turkey.
