Jackie
We have had plenty of rain here in SW Iowa. I am presently harvesting the
following crops:
Goldcot apricot, a heavy crop but nice size. Because of the wet June I have
a lot of problems with brown rot this year.
My Alfred apricot overbore and the apricots are not ripe yet. Perhaps they
will not have as much brown rot as our weather has been dry with low
humidity for the past week.
Black currants are ripe but I have yet to calculate how to use them. I have
been eating out of hand the red currants and the Swedish black currants.
My apples all had a heavy June drop. It appears that they did not pollinate
well. However the king apple bloom seems to have set so I should have fewer
but much larger apples.
I only have one pawpaw tree so my pollination is very poor.
My Early Golden Persimmon as usual has set on a heavy crop. Last year with
the cool wet summer they did not mature very well, hopefully this year will
be better.
I am not harvesting any of the early apples yet. It appears that the first
early apples will ripen soon. They do not usually do well in the heat of an
Iowa summer.
Judson L. Frisk SW Iowa Zone 5.

I'll be putting together the next Pomona shortly; all of NAFEX is
eager to hear about your experiences in fruit growing. Please write it
down, no matter how briefly, and send it to Gretchen Ring,

.

Thanks so much.
