I didn't think it was possible to do that now-a-days.  But I suppose anything is possible if you purchase the right to do it.   Just this morning, I placed a post on The Heirloom Orchardist about the random renaming of fruit trees back in the pre-plant patent days.  By coincidence, used cherry trees as an example.
