We are in Rochester, NY, which is about 80 miles east of Niagara Falls area..Zone 5/6.

We have a wonderful semi dwarf Starfire Peach that has a very flavorful, juicy, sweet peach. It bore the next year after planting 5 ft trees. We had no winter damage on this tree with that extra cold and snowy winter two years ago.

The peaches freeze very well- keeping flavor for more than a year in the freezer in freezer bags. It is an early peach, mid-August; deep red burgundy blush; fruit is almost mango colored. Easy to peel when ripe. The only disadvantage is that it could be more freestone- the flesh seems to squish more easily than come off the stone cleanly. We got more than a bushell of peaches- softball sized- this year.

We ordered it from Hill Top Nursery, 1-800-253-2911- but they are now only selling commercial rather than to hobby orchards. Perhaps they could tell you who has some in your area.

You may contact me off list if you would like more information.

Hello Again,

Thanks for the grape information.

Question on peaches for anyone in the Niagara area. Do you know of a very flavorful variety of peach grown in the Niagara area?

I am looking to make wine, and need the most flavorful variety I can find.

Thanks,
Tom
