Oops. Sent that one out before I finished my thoughts.
I've not noticed rust on any of my serviceberries, but by virtue of it infecting quince, hawthorn, and native crab, all within 100 ft or so of the serviceberries, I'd hazard a guess that the fungus is in the area.
