Hello,

Can someone explain the plant name classification system to
me?

>From what I have read plants can named (categorized) based
on the opinion of the person doing the naming and is very
subjective. I always thought it was a rigid, scientific
process, leaving little room for doubt.

My recent experience researching Ribe odoratum and Ribe
aureum lead me to believe that things are a lot "looser" in
the classification system. Is it a matter of "synonymous"
or "almost synonymous" plants and categories and or
subjective opinions? Or is it some other aspect that I am
unfamilar with?

Thanks in advance.

Tom
