I didn't dig and transplant any bareroot trees until this past weekend, but
did transplant about 50 containerized(mostly in the remains of the 1/2
gallon milk cartons I'd started them in) seedlings(mostly oaks & hickories)
with the kids at the neighborhood elementary school, back in September.
Too far to haul water to them all, but I figured they were far better off
in the ground than they would have been in the nursery area, 'cuz I didn't
have time to water them there, either.

I figure those container-grown seedlings - and some of them had been
'imprisoned' in the same pot for as long as 3 years(!) should be
well-acclimated to 'drought' conditions, after the neglect they'd endured
while awaiting their chance to find a permanent spot.

Depending on rainfall, I'm figuring on watering the bareroots I tranplanted
this past weekend on a weekly basis until things get sufficiently moist
that I think they'll be OK. Hope to get some shredded leaves down around
them as mulch this over the TG holiday. Should help with moisture retention.
