My response: 16 bushels so far, and we haven't even scratched the
surface!
Fortunately, got a commitment today from a migrant crew who promised to
come
and harvest the rest just as soon as they're done picking
apples at a nearby orchard. Their only fear is not getting back home in
time
for Christmas.

My reply:

So nice to here : ) Did it actually grow for you?

After reflecting on Dan's advice last year in regard to that vines
alternative uses I elected to use it for shade and wildlife.

I slammed a few in ground around the house(stone and clay)and was
surprised they took...I got about 3-5 feet of vine with no attention.
And I literally just took a metal pole, taped a hole in with a 5 pound
sledge, wet the stick, rolled it in potting soil and then shoved about
4inches in the ground with two eyes(buds)above ground. I never watered
or paid attention(my whole garden went through severe neglect this
year)so I am surprised anything happened. They all took. I figure next
year is the big vigor experiment.

Ed, who selflessly offer so much to this group, perhaps ought to get a
little
(big?) plug from time to time...gratis. ( But I guess that would open up
a
whole new can of worms, eh?)

My reply:

Actually I think he has a marked preference toward liquid refreshments
at the annual meeting : )

In a way this was my point. We have many big contributors who make up
NAFEX; people with decades of experience who give of themselves and their
experience to this list. And in general they do so without the
commercial plugs. There contributions are their plugs, as they
constantly demonstrate the depth and relevance of their experiences via
sharing their knowledge.

Very interesting, especially in light of Jim Cummins' response. (You
guys go
to the same school?)

My reply:

Naw, Jim knows what he is doing; I am just a wannabe/never-was.

"Frillable?"

My reply:

When that word failed the spell-check I knew I was in trouble. I made a
judgement call and figured no one would be cruel enough to point put I
just made up a word...but no, not Ozzie, he goes for the throat : )

I meant loose, fluffy, light, with high organic content and therefore a
lot of oxygen.

Good point, Kevin. I promise to take your (and all other)
advice/suggestions
into careful consideration before deciding how to proceed. Thanks for
your input.

My reply:

Keep us all posted on the method you elect and the results. If you go
for the inarching approach take a few pictures. I'll create a website
for them and we can post them to the group(if you can't to digital I can
scan the photos).

Ozzie wrote:

Same to you and yours, Fluff. Ready for some Maine Honeycrisps?

My reply:

I have an apple tasting in late November that could use some. My family
and I also could use some. Let me know how much via private e-mail.

Wishing you all the best,

the fluffy one
