And they make great tracking sticks, measuring rods, etc.
Not usually carried on horseback, but no ground pounder should be without a
stick.

I thought this was a survival school weekend-- take nothing at all, eat
bugs, snakes; rub sticks together, etc. Survival is when all else is lost
and you want to get home (or last until some SAR person finds you).
