Hi Una,

Sorry for not explaining that part. All the instrument does is make it easier on the radio operator in the command post. They don't have to manually stop and start a stop watch every couple of minutes. Also, the signal is sent to all teams over the radio automatically, so the timing is more consistent.

Prior to us having this timing device, the radio operator in the command post used to send the signal verbally using a countdown from 5.

Joe,

I too am not understanding why a special device is needed to coordinate
the whistling. Do you use this device instead of having every team
operate a radio? A simultaneous whistle could be cued over the radio,
verbally, if all field teams have radios. Or?
